What is the backstory here? How far back was the "secret past?" How old was her mother when she left the cult? Did she have her daughter while in the cult? Does the daughter have memories from being in the cult?

I am asking because I don't see why the cult would kill the mother 30 years later or more, by the time she has become a grandmother. Why the wait?

The logline is very long as it is. I suggest:

"When her mother is brutally murdered, a religious single mum must find the killers, to save her own daughter from sacrifice by an ancient cult."

I obviously took some liberties with character traits and details, but we need to see some specifics, so swap them for whatever works for you.

I put "single mother" instead of "family woman," because it makes her position even worse, being all alone against the enemy. If you have a plan for her husband to help or impede her, ignore the suggestion.

Ritualistic human sacrifice has never been practiced in Christianity. Nor Islam.? Nor Judaism.? So what kind of "off-brand" cult is it?? And why would she seek consolation in an "off-brand" demonic cult? that practices human sacrifices even if she doesn't know? she is in jeopardy of being sacrificed?

People get involved in cults because they are looking for hope, for spiritual consolation, for solutions to the vexing problems of life they don't see in standard brand religions.?? So what's is the doctrine or eschatology? in this cult that hooks her interest?

Why does the cult perform human sacrifices?

And If she is in danger of becoming a human sacrifice, it seems to me that the proper genre tag is Horror, not Thriller.

Also, I'm guessing that they intend to sacrifice her is the Big Reveal that comes around the end of the 2nd Act,? some 70+ minutes into the film.? What's going on to hook and hold an audience's interest for the 1st 70 minutes?

I like it, but the only thing I have issues with... cults generally don't force people to join them do they?... they just make it very difficult to leave.? Or at least that's the case with scientology from what I've seen in documentaries.? But this could be a good ol' people-sacrificing demonic cult... in which case you can probably have them escaping having their hearts ripped out.? I like the "uncovering the secret past" type of movie for sure.
