I agree with everything Richieve says.

I do think this is an interesting subject matter because when you look at entertainment and shadenfreude, people love to watch the misfortune of others. Since the days of the Roman collisseum, crowds would be bay for blood as people were killed for entertainment.

So you could focus on how far two TV stations are willing to go in order to win the ratings war but throw in a main character who is the centre of it all. I'm now thinking of films like The Running Man.

You need an inciting incident
a lead character
a goal for the lead character
and something standing in the way

If you have a bit of irony that is good as well.
