The River
Hello, as the hunter is not the main character there is absolutely no need to spend an adjective to describe it as over curious - this is not important for the story.
Besides, you need a compelling main character to be described with a very good chosen adjective.
Think about 1) main character, 2) his goal, 3) the opponent or oppenents forces, -you have an inciting event but it is not related to the personal story of your main character. The inciting event must be connected to the main plot.
Overly curious is a bit simple...............It is kind of like say a detective stumbles on to a crime.
Look for a mental, social or psychological feature to heighten the characters arc.
There must be Conflict and Change.
Which River be certain of your Storyworld.
Best of Luck.

Who is the main character?
Is this too brief? Or should it read:
When an over-curious hunter tragically disappears, the local townsfolk begin unravelling the legend of a fearsome predator stalking the rugged gorges of the River, the consequences of which test mateship, loyalty and true love.
