Not bad! Certainly enough for a story is there. If you got a professional review, they would say never lead with the place. Here the driving force is the reporter so lead with that. When a grizzled NY reporter is sent to Savannah to uncover a gay murder, he/she/they realizes they must fight through the pleasant Southern facade to get the awful, unbelievable truth.

Not saying that's it, but if it's about people then lead with people. And detail the conflict. And never have a list!

regardless, if you've written the script already, one of the rare thoughts that easily has enough for a feature

dpg, you asked--"That the prominent man killed the guy is never in question ? is it? So the dramatic question is WHY? Was it justifiable manslaughter? Or??"

The dramatic question may be more HOW than WHY. You're right, the fact that Jim kills Billy is not in dispute. Jim claims Billy fired at him first and he fired back in self defense.

The State's Position: There is no gunshot residue on Billy's hands. They believe Jim murdered Billy and fired Billy's gun himself to make it look like self defense.

Defense Team Position: Shoddy police work. The investigation has been botched from the start as evidenced by Jim's cat being allowed to walk around the crime scene (a true story). The gunshot reside must have gotten wiped off Billy's hands in transit to the morgue.

This ramps up the stakes for Jim--he will either be charged with first degree murder or set free.

Dear dpg,

Interesting to hear your first reaction to this movie.

My life was in full train wreck mode when I viewed it for the first time. Visiting Savannah, Georgia where "the party never stops, not even for murder" was a great escape.

We bring a lot of ourselves to the movie experience.
