This seems pretty clear to me, I think you could condense it further.

From:

"...to leader of the battle for women's equality under the constitution,"

To:

"...to embattled leader for women's constitutional equality"

Which got me thinking you could give a little more about the Quaker childhood:

"from peaceful Quaker childhood"

"Peaceful" or appropriate adjective that gives insight into the nature of her origins and her personality as a child.
