The problem I foresee here is that the father would not be convinced enough to seek out an exorcist by the beginning of act 2. ?Usually in horror movies the father doesn’t finally accept the paranormal until at least the mid point if not the Dark Night Of The Soul scene that takes us into the third act.

The problem in ghost stories is that the audience doesn’t believe in ghosts from the outset, so we need more than one act to get used to the idea and start believing.

The movie?Insidious deals with a father dealing with ghosts – then finding out he has a forgotten past as a psychic late in the second act. Paranormal Activity’s female lead doesn’t mention she has dealings with ghosts in the past until the midpoint.

The theology at the base of your concept doesn't work. According to Christianity, Jesus will return - he is the Messiah, not some one else. If this boy is Jesus 2.0 then describe him as such, otherwise, it reads as if this other person is the Messiah which is true in Judaism.

When I said, you can skip the drowning, I just meant in the logline, not the story as a whole. What sets the story in motion is the avoidant teen forced to leave his hideout. Now the action actually begins.
