    It seems to me the concept might work better if it is re-engineered so that the inexperienced lawyer decides to defend ?from murder charges –pro bono, no less–the ?girl’s ?beloved brother? or father — someone closer than a cousin. ?The accused ?is seemingly guilty as sin, no chance of beating the rap. ?He does so to win her love after she has spurned all his other romantic overtures. ?(And maybe there’s ?romantic competition, a rival for her affections, too.)
