Perhaps the main character is older, and is starting to get dementia. She has carried this burden with her all her life. After years of denial and shame, she finally finds the strength to write this memoir in order to get the abuser persecuted, knowing that the longer she leaves it, the less she will remember.

These days it’s relatively easy to establish paternity by a DNA test.? Even if he refuses to submit to a DNA test, she can covertly obtain a DNA sample by, say, saliva on a cup or bottle the guy discards.? Cops do it all the time.? And being a banker, isn’t she rich enough to be able to hire a PI to do just that?

Not sure a job is a good enough goal - if he loses his job, he'll get another one - not nice but not too bad, especially today when so many people are losing their jobs... Is there a stakes character you could bring in to the story?
